Steven Young is a writer, auteur film maker, visual effects artist and musician based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, This multIi-faceted northerner has a history of rock n roll, becoming a regular favourite with Radio 1’s Mark Radcliffe in the 90s fronting psychedlic art-rockers BIG WHITE STAIRS who released several records on their own ‘Periscope’ label.

Moving on from performing to film making, Steve, spent three years in Vancouver where he studied film and wrote, directed and scored two short films which have aired at festivals worldwide. On returning to the UK in 2003 Young began work on a highly unusual marionette movie which takes the genre into brand new realms...

Auteur film maker Steven Young's previous short films explore modern day dementia and the dark recesses of the subconscious. 'BLANK' (2002, 22 mins) showed at Slamdance festival Utah, Kinofilm festival Manchester, Toronto Online festival (winner dark-edged short) and has enjoyed four airings on Propeller TV.

'HALY SAINT'(2004, 33 mins) showed at New York International film festival, Glastonbury film festival, Fantastic film festival Manchester. Young's latest film 'ABSENTIA' (2007, 60 mins) is a unique marionette science fiction odyssey. Three years in the making, this vividly imaginative work debuts in November with showings at Filmstock festival London and Waterford festival, Ireland.
